Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

leave a comment »

Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton wedded today at Westminster Abbey in a royal occasion of dazzling pomp and pageantry that has attracted a huge global audience and injected new life into the monarchy.

Before the vows, a veiled Middleton, the first “commoner” to marry a prince in close proximity to the throne in more than 350 years, walked slowly through the 1,900-strong congregation to the swirling strains of Charles Parry’s “I Was Glad.”

As they met at the altar William whispered to her, prompting a smile at the start of the ceremony. The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams declared the couple married with the words: “I pronounce that they be man and wife together.”

Middleton’s dress, the subject of fevered speculation for months in the fashion press, was a traditional ivory silk and satin outfit with a lace applique and long train.

She wore a tiara loaned by the queen and the diamond and sapphire engagement ring that once belonged to William’s mother Princess Diana, who was divorced from Prince Charles in 1996, a year before her death in a car crash in Paris aged just 36.

Queen Elizabeth, other royals, David and Victoria Beckham, the footballer-pop star couple, singer Elton John and Prime Minister David Cameron were among famous guests at the abbey.

They joined 50 heads of state as well as charity workers and war veterans who know the prince from his military training. Prince William and Kate will now be officially referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Limited Edition Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0

leave a comment »

Porsche launches a new variant of the celebrated and successful racing pedigree 911 GT3 RS this July, offering even more power and greater performance.  Limited to 600 vehicles worldwide, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 takes all the attributes that have made the Porsche 911 GT3 a serial winner on the race track.

The new model transmits thoroughbred motorsport technology through to its innermost core. The flat engine’s crankshaft has been lifted unchanged from the 911 GT3 RSR racing car’s six cylinder engine and the forged pistons’ connecting rods are made of titanium.

The flat six 4.0-litre sports engine, the biggest 911 engine ever, is also the most powerful naturally aspirated engine with its maximum power of 500 hp at 8,250 revs per minute. The 911 GT3 4.0, available exclusively with a six-speed manual sports transmission, sprints to 62 mph from a standing start in 3.9 seconds and, with its gearing designed for the racing circuit, takes it to the 124 mph (200 km/h) mark in under 12 seconds.

Inside, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 features lightweight sports bucket seats in carbon fibre covered in black leather/red Alcantara with ‘RS 4.0’ in red on the headrests. The steering wheel and gear shift lever are also trimmed in Alcantara with red stitching. Carbon fibre door entry guards with ‘RS 4.0’ logos are fitted to each sill and a dashboard trim strip in carbon fibre with a ‘RS 4.0’ logo runs across the inside of the car above the glovebox lid.

How Texting Helps and Hurts Romance

leave a comment »

From a man’s point of view, the problem with texting and dating is that too many men just don’t know how to do it right. Funny, flirty, and confident messages will nurture the attraction between two people. This requires that men be original, think creatively, and author with purpose. As an example, when asking a woman for her phone number, I will text her immediately with a flirty message that says, “Who is that amazing guy you are talking to?” instead of saying “Hi,” “Thanks,” or “Nice to meet you.” Don’t forget, text messages are often reread. Send something that reminds a woman who you are or how you made them feel.

Another creative use of text messaging is to send pictures instead of texts. I happen to love women’s shoes and enjoy women who appreciate their footwear. So if I’m looking forward to seeing someone or want her to know that I’m thinking of her, I’ll take a picture of some great heels and send it to her with a message that says, “You would look great in these” or “Thinking of you.” If you don’t have the stiletto fixation I have, you could do this with something more fitting to your situation. In these cases, the messages are short, confident, and flirty. Style almost always trumps the substance of a text message, since anything “substantial” should be said in person. If the message would better be “said” than “read,” then you probably shouldn’t send it.

At the beginning of a relationship, first impressions can certainly be ruined by poorly conceived texts. Words, when used thoughtfully, can evoke powerful emotional responses in people. Next time you send a text, make sure it’s not just making conversation or replacing what should be a phone call. Messages should be used to elevate conversation. If you can do this, chances are that women will appreciate it, text you back, and look forward to hearing from you.

From a woman’s point of view, texting definitely detracts from attraction. Dating is all about getting personal, and texting is by far the most impersonal method of communication — a girl can’t derive any useful personality traits from a “Sup” text. This makes misinterpretation the biggest danger of texting in the early stages of dating. The action itself will speak louder than its contents, usually saying one of the following:

1. “I’m scared of you.”
Every time you communicate with someone, the recipient is aware that you had multiple methods available. You could have called, e-mailed, showed up at her doorstep, sent a singing telegram — the possibilities are endless. When a guy text’s, it’s clear he chose to do so, leaving the suspicion that he’s too scared of you to actually speak with you, doesn’t have clue how to start a conversation, or is suffering from a social anxiety disorder. None of those things are sexy. Ever.

2. “I don’t really care if you respond or not.”
A text loosely translates to: “I don’t really care about you. It might be fun to go out tonight, and it would be awesome to have sex but I’m too tired/bored/uninterested to make any real effort. So if you get back to me, great. If not, I can finally catch up on Lost. Bonus if you drive over here and I can do both.”

3. “I just sent that text to every single woman in my address book.”

…And he will mostly likely hook up with the first girl who answers, unless of course a much hotter girl gets back to him before he gets Girl No. 1 back to his place.

If a guy genuinely likes a girl, he should want to talk to her. Plus, the act of talking has another positive outcome — it boosts his chances of success. It’s easy to ignore a one-line text message, especially if it’s a chain of lowercase letters and numbers, such as “u want 2 go out 2nite?” A nice deep human voice? Now, that’s harder to turn down.

It’s an All-Star Reunion for ‘Fast & Furious’ Cast

leave a comment »

After blasting through Miami’s race circuit, exploring the underworld of Tokyo and drifting through tunnels in Mexico, the Fast & Furious heroes are back in action. With explosive bouts of tire-shredding and clutch-crunching, the fifth installment in a series of movies that first captivated audiences a decade ago is back with a vengeance. Only this time, the action of ‘Fast Five’ isn’t limited to fast cars driving at breakneck speeds for there’s plenty of fight sequences, plus an astounding train heist.

Since we last saw them, Brian (Paul Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) broke Dom (Vin Diesel) out of custody and have blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Brazil, they need to pull off one last job in order to gain their freedom. Their mission? Assemble a team of top operatives made up of their family of friends to orchestrate an insane heist worth $100 million.

Joining the cast in this latest installment is Dwayne Johnson, who plays a Federal Agent. For Johnson, it was an opportunity of a lifetime. “I was able to utilize what I have in my own personal arsenal: years of training, wrestling, and learning different combat styles from the films that I’ve shot,” says the actor.

Reggaeton music superstars Don Omar and Tego Calderón, Matt Schulze, Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as Tej, the tech-savvy hustler/race ringleader — all franchise favorites — make an all star return.

“I can definitely say once I read the script and knew who was set to return, I was down,” says Bridges. “We had a little too much fun while filming. It’s almost a crime to actually get paid and to have this much fun at the same time. I love working with good people and I love working on a good script that I know is going be a good movie, hands down.”

According to the franchise producer Neal Moritz, the idea of assembling the entire cast had been floating around during pre-production of its predecessor. An idea the team returned to after that film’s record-breaking release in 2009. “Bringing everybody back was sitting in the back of our heads when we did the fourth one. Once we saw the audience reaction to Fast & Furious’ combination of Vin, Paul, Jordana and Michelle, we all had that collective ‘wow’ moment. There’s this storied history for each of the characters throughout the franchise so it begged the question, ‘What if we brought them all back?” shares Moritz.

With outrageous action scenes ‘Fast Five’ has an overdose of car chases, gunfire and window-trembling explosions and almost 200 vehicles were mangled and totaled during production. “All of the ‘Fast and the Furious’ films have had terrific action, car chases and set pieces, but none of them have matched what we’ve done on ‘Fast Five.’ We really topped ourselves on this one with the cars and did some damage.” adds Moritz.

‘Fast Five’ releases in theaters April 29.

President Obama Releases Birth Certificate

leave a comment »

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama released the long-form birth certificate as he stated that the country doesn’t have time for the “distraction” and “silliness” of questions being persistently raised about where he was born.

The president spoke at the White House Wednesday after taking the unexpected step of releasing the document, which supplements Hawaii’s official certification of the president’s birth there. Obama had released that during the campaign. Polls show large numbers of Republicans continue to doubt Obama is a natural born citizen eligible to be president. Real estate mogul Donald Trump had seized on the issue as he weighs a GOP candidacy.

The certificate says Obama was born in Hawaii, which makes him eligible to hold the office of president. Obama released a standard short form before he was elected in 2008, but requested copies of his original birth certificate from Hawaii officials this week in hopes of quieting the lingering controversy.

The certificate is signed by the delivery doctor, Obama’s mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama.

The form says Barack Hussein Obama II was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital, within the city limits of Honolulu.

There’s no mention of religion. It says his father Barack Hussein Obama, age 25, was African and born in Kenya and his mother was Caucasian and born in Wichita, Kan. Obama’s mother and the doctor signed the certificate on Aug. 7 and 8.

Hawaii’s registrar certified the new photocopy of the document provided to the White House on April 25, 2011.

Jaguar XJ named International Luxury Car of The Year

leave a comment »

The International Car of The Year (ICOTY) jury, made up of 12 nationally-renowned automotive journalists, has named the all-new 2011 Jaguar XJ as the 2011 International Luxury Car of the Year for its unique design and stellar performance.

“We’re delighted that the 2011 Jaguar XJ has received this honor,” said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Global Brand Director.”  The all-new XJ is a benchmark in both design and technology, and we’re thrilled to receive such an accolade from one of the highest international panel of judges in our industry.”

Launched in 1997 at the North American International Auto Show, the ICOTY Awards became the first auto awards to honor new vehicles based on the emotional connection between car and consumer.   Today, the ICOTY Awards have evolved and are based on lifestyle compatibility and how well automakers achieve that goal.

“The ICOTY Awards are not about power and performance, but rather about personality and passion,” said ICOTY Executive Producer Courtney Caldwell. The new Jaguar XJ has brought a bold new approach to the luxury car market with its distinctive design, generous accommodation and impressive predicted residual values.
